उद्देश्य और विधेय (SUBJECT AND PREDICATE)

वाक्य बनाते समय —
⇒ हम किसी व्यक्ति या वस्तु का नाम लेते हैं; और
⇒ उस व्यक्ति या वस्तु के बारे में कुछ कहते हैं।

दूसरे शब्दों में, हमारे पास ऐसा उद्देश्य (Subject) होना चाहिए जिसके विषय में हम कुछ कहें और उस उद्देश्य के विषय में कुछ व्यक्त करें।

इस प्रकार प्रत्येक वाक्य के दो भाग होते हैं—

→ वह भाग जो उस व्यक्ति या वस्तु का उल्लेख करे जिसके विषय में हम विवरण देते हैं, उसे वाक्य का उद्देश्य (Subject) कहते हैं।
The part which names the person or thing we are speaking about. This is called the Subject of the sentence.

→ वह भाग जो उद्देश्य के विषय में कुछ बताए, उसे वाक्य का विधेय (Predicate) कहते हैं।
The part which tells something about the Subject. This is called the Predicate of the sentence.

∴ प्रायः वाक्य का उद्देश्य विधेय से पहले आता है, किंतु कभी-कभी यह विधेय के बाद भी आ जाता है; जैसे-
Here comes the bus.
Sweet are the uses of adversity.

∴ आज्ञासूचक वाक्यों में (Imperative sentences) उद्देश्य (Subject) छोड़ दिया जाता है; जैसे-
Sit down. ( यहाँ Subject You है जो छिपा हुआ है। )
Thank him. ( यहाँ भी Subject You है जो छिपा हुआ है। )
